The City of South Hutchinson
South Hutchinson, the largest of the K96 Corridor communities, lies at the west end of the Corridor adjacent to the south side of the micropolitan city of Hutchinson, Kansas.
The junction of K96 with 3 major highways, U.S. 50, K61 and K14 makes South Hutchinson a hub of Commerce.
The City was founded in 1886 and oil exploration led to the discovery of a major salt vein. At one time, 18 salt companies called South Hutchinson home, including Morton Salt whose facility in South Hutchinson is undergoing a major renovation and investment in new equipment. In 2007, South Hutchinson partnered in bringing Siemens Wind Power to the Salt City Industrial Park, 2 miles east of the City on U.S. 50. The facility manufactures nacelles for the giant wind turbines that are helping to drive the alternative energy industry. Other companies calling South Hutchinson home include Tyson Foods and Collins Bus Corporation, the leading Class A bus manufacturer in North America, Straub International, American Packaging, Seed Research Equipment Solutions, Stutzman Refuse Disposal, Hoefer’s Custom Stain Glass and Machine Design.
